Mixtures and Solutions (Grades K-2)
Mix, mash and stir your way through as we learn the physical and chemical properties of our gooey creations. What will you create? In this hands-on class we will learn the differences between mixtures and solutions and how to classify each one. Learn how scientists characterize, sort, organize and categorize. Using and understanding the properties of these creations will help us comprehend the various kinds of chemical elements around us.
Mental Mazes and Perplexing Puzzles (Grades 3-4)
This class will present students with a number of challenging mind games and puzzles requiring a combination of imagination, creativity, and mental agility to solve. Puzzles will range across a wide spectrum: math logic, spatial awareness, verbal skills, inductive reasoning, and intuitive insight will all be tested and strengthened.
Amazing Amusement Parks: A Scientists Playground (Grades5-6)
Clink. Clank. Clink. Clank. As you make your way to the top of the rollercoaster’s steep and endless peak, do you ever feel as if your stomach is so full of butterflies that it will explode? Ever felt nervous and excited and hoped the engineers knew what they were doing? Amusement parks are a scientist’s playground. Believe it or not, as you race down the loop or barrel through a corkscrew; physics is all around us. Why do roller coaster cars stay on the track? Explore how forces, laws of motion, and energy make you feel as if you’re flying off the rollercoaster or getting buried into your seat. You will investigate G-forces and how to design your very own rollercoaster. So buckle up, sit back, and enjoy the ride!
Videomagination (Grades 7-8)
Hollywood. Strobe lights. Flashing cameras. Fan clubs. Ever wished you could be a celebrity? Well now you can! In this moviemaking class, you can become a movie star in your own personal movie. We will learn how to make an action packed thriller, a comedy, or romantic film to blow the audience away. As a team, students will design a story line and film their clips using their very own HD handheld camera. As they take turns playing the role of the producer, director, and editor, they will create a final product that will be showcased on the fourth Saturday. They will learn to use their imagination and creativity not only in writing the script but also in choosing various filming angles and editing styles!
**We encourage you to sign up for all four sessions but each session will be taught independent of each other so that even if you miss a class you can still attend the next class and not be lost.
